Member Guidelines

Effective 5 November 2026 · Turbomachinery Professional, operated by Lightbulb Waves LLC

Turbomachinery Professional is a moderated community. It is a technical discussion forum for professionals who work with turbomachinery, not a social network. These guidelines help us keep the forum accurate, courteous and useful for everyone.

  1. Scope and acceptance

These guidelines apply to every member and to all content you share on Turbomachinery Professional, including topics, replies, answer ratings and their notes, and your profile. By registering or pre-registering, you confirm that you have read these guidelines and agree to follow them.

  2. A moderated community

Every profile is reviewed before it is approved, and moderators read the forums regularly. Moderators may review, hide or remove any content that does not follow these guidelines, and may ask a member to clarify or correct a post.

  3. Turbomachinery topics only

Discussions must be strictly related to turbomachinery and its fields of application, for example design, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, reliability, inspection and the related standards and practices.

Politics and any other subject that is not strictly related to turbomachinery are not permitted. This includes religion, general news and personal disputes. Advertising, sales offers, job offers and requests for work are also not permitted in the discussions.

  4. Reference a standard

Every topic and reply must reference at least one applicable standard, code or recommended practice, for example API RP 686 or ISO 20816-1. Where no standard applies, please select “Other” or “N/A” and explain the basis of your answer briefly.

  5. Fair and courteous language

Please use fair, educated and courteous language at all times. Discuss the technical point, not the person. Disagreement is welcome when it is respectful and supported by facts.

Coarse, offensive, abusive, discriminatory, harassing or threatening language is not accepted in any form.

  6. Confidential information

Do not share proprietary or confidential information, documents you do not have the right to share, information that is subject to export control, or the personal data of other people. Remove client, site and project identifiers when you describe a case.

  7. Accuracy and safety

Share what you know from your experience and the applicable references, and state your assumptions clearly. Content in the forums is shared for professional discussion only. It does not replace the instructions of the equipment manufacturer, the site procedures or the judgement of a qualified engineer responsible for the work.

  8. Your profile

Register in your own name, with true information about your experience and a professional profile link that belongs to you. Each person may hold one member account. Your profile photo should be a clear, recent photo of yourself.

  9. Rating answers

Rate answers on their technical merit only. Every rating needs a reason and a short note. Ratings without a proper reason, or ratings used to settle personal differences, are not counted and may be removed.

  10. Reporting content

If you see content that does not follow these guidelines, please use the Report option on the post instead of replying to it. Moderators review every report.

  11. Removal and suspension

Members who do not follow these guidelines will be removed from the community immediately, and their access to all Turbomachinery Professional services will be suspended permanently. Moderators decide whether a guideline has been breached, and their decision is final.

  12. Changes to these guidelines

We may update these guidelines from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page shows the latest version. If you continue to use Turbomachinery Professional after an update, you accept the updated guidelines.

Thank you for helping us keep Turbomachinery Professional a reliable place for technical discussion.
